Week 3 of Dancing With The Stars

The third week of Dancing With The Stars was somewhat disappointing to me.  Oh there were some really good performances, and some not so good performances but there really was no one dance that made me sit up and say “wow”.  And what was it with Len Goodman tonight?  Did he have a bug up his butt or was it just me?  And before I go into some discussions about the actual dances, was there not a butt fetish tonight?  All three judges had to comment on the size of Joey’s butt and Ian went to see male strippers perform so he could get his butt action going.  Just an observation.

The couples tonight performed either a Jive or Tango.  There didn’t seem to be any method to how the dances were assigned – both the men and the women danced each dance tonight.  And overall there was no one dance that was performed better than the other.  There were good and not so good performances with each type of dance.

Shandi and Brian started the night with a jive.  Shandi seems like a really sweet and nice person but I just don’t think she has it in her to go very far in the show.  She seemed stiff and not comfortable at all.  She did really well compared to her performance last week but still compared to everyone else she is one of the weaker competitors.

John and Edyta did their tango next.  He is such an awesome performer.  He has so much more depth and quality than just playing an overweight middle aged mailman on Cheers.  He really got into character and commanded the stage, but I don’t think he did very much dancing, just a lot of performing.

Clyde and Elena were up next.  I love Clyde.  He reminds me of a big old teddy bear or something.  However, I don’t think his performance was as good as it could have been.  He seemed heavy footed and slow and not comfortable at all with the jive.  The judges gave him the worst marks of the night, and Clyde ended with a total of 16.

Laila and Maksim were next.  We got to meet Maks’ brother Val in the behind the scenes footage.  All I have to say is oh, my, there are two of them!  Maks and Val are definitely hotties.  Do they offer lessons to the average person or do you have to be a celebrity to get their private instructions?  But I digress.  I like Laila – I think she is strong and confident on stage but she was penalized for breaking the rules of the tango (she and Maks broke the hold in the middle of the dance and them continued in the dance hold – a big no-no according to the judges).

Apolo and Julianne performed their homage to Pulp Fiction and their jive next.  I love him – he is really great and I think he has a lot of charisma and energy.  The judges liked him too.  Bruno compared him to a ride in Disneyland.  Where does that man find his comments?  Does he stay up late at night just thinking of wild and crazy things to say about the celebrities?  Does he bring them with him on index cards to the studio or does he just memorize them?

Joey and Kym were next with their tango.  The judges liked them and they tied for the highest score of the night but I really did not care for the performance.  Unfortunately I could not get past the Star Wars music.  A tango should not be performed to this kind of music, it should be performed to more traditional music.  Just my opinion.

Ian and Cheryl were up next with their jive.  I did think this was the best jive of the night.  The judges said it was a 9 performance until the end when he messed up something.  What he messed up we’ll never know because we got an awful camera shot that showed nothing – NOTHING!  I even called my mom to see if she saw the mistake (in case I blinked or something) and she said that she missed it too because of the camera work.  Thanks a lot mister director!

Leeza and Tony performed their tango next.  She is so great and I think she gave a great performance, the best tango of the evening.  What was it with her showing her boobs on TV?  Was she trying to do a Janet Jackson or what?

Heather and Jonathan were up next, performing a jive.  I have to give Heather credit, because I’m sure this was the toughest dance for her to perform.  Unfortunately I personally did not care for her routine.  I’m not sure what it was, I just didn’t like it.  The judges did, though, and that’s what matters more I guess.  She and Jonathan also tied for the highest score of the night.

Billy Ray and Karina were up last with a tango.  I’m sure she is really missing Mario Lopez at this point in time, because even though Billy Ray tries really hard I don’t see him going much longer in the competition.  He was called the most improved dancer from week 1 and I agree – but he performed so poorly in the first show saying he is the most improved might not really be that significant.

Tomorrow night in the results show there are going to be lots of guest performers – Josh Grobin, someone I can’t remember, and Survivor is going to perform “Eye of the Tiger” live and there will be a group dance to it.  I had to go back and make sure I remembered correctly, but Joey McIntyre and Ashly DelGrosso performed a Paso Doble to that song in season 1 that was awesome.  I hope this dance is just as good.

So who is going home tomorrow night?  I think that Shandi is in danger again (mainly because I think she has a smaller fan base than some of the other celebrities).  Also, Clyde and John are probably at risk, but again I think they have so many fans it will pull them through this week.
