Week 6 on Dancing with the Stars - the Latin beat
Once again, I don’t agree with the judges. Constructive criticism is supposed to be just that - constructive. The judging is anything but consistent, the continually pander to some contestants and are absolutely brutal to others. (Maybe they think if they are mean enough to Heather, Paul will have one of them choreograph his next tour.) The audience is also vocal in its displeasure. Perhaps that’s the point. Who knows?
Anyhow, in my opinion, Joey and Kim got an excellent score from the judges for their samba, but to me it was two thumbs down. I don’t think he is physically constructed for that type of dance. Heather and Jonathan actually had two “crashes” in their paso, which is something you see in professional competition. John comes across as a nice guy, very entertaining, and he projects the fact he is having a good time. Laila comes across as pretty overbearing, when she does the “regular” ballroom, she is excellent. Somebody should tell her ballroom is not “street.”
Billy Ray’s jive was not your run of the mill jive; more a kind of Roadhouse Boogie, but it’s the best I have seen him dance yet. Eat your heart out Tucker Carlson, the way to use a chair as a prop is the way Apolo and Julianne did it. What a great performance! Ian, well, Ian is a stomper not a glider. His paso was passable. I still say it was his good fortune to have Cheryl for a partner.
The group swing was an example of entertaining chaos. Nuff said
Hey ABC producers, what do you think the chances are of playing some appropriate ballroom music, not funky? Just asking.

I think some modern music is good. The show is for an audience of all ages, and having some music that appeals to all of the viewers is a smart idea. But JLo for a Paso Doble? I’m not too sure if that really works well for me.
