What do you think about Survivor and the four tribes?
I was reading an article in Entertainment Weekly about the new season of Survivor. Turns out this season there will be four tribes and the contestants will be sorted based on their race/ethnicity. What is going on? I personally think that there needs to be more diversity when it comes to the contestants on Reality TV programs but this seems to push the envelope just a bit too far. Now everyone who watches the show will be routing for a certain group or against a certain group and this just seems to be the main problem with racism. Maybe what Survivor is doing is that term you hear from TV fans called “jumping the shark” with this decision. Remember the Happy Days episode when the gang goes to California and Fonzie jumps over the shark in a bet against a surfer type dude? Happy Days was never the same after that, and I wonder if Survivor will ever be the same after this stunt.

I am not really surprised but am a bit dismayed by the negative reactions about Survivor teams being set up by race / ethnicity. We have had so many shows where teams are by sex, by age, by occupation, by interest, etc. The gay team could be proud for being the gay team and have that commin bond. The intellectuals could be proud for being intellectuals and having that common bound. And so on with so many team criteria that have been used. What is wrong with letting persons have team pride because they are united by the ethnicity.
