Why do we enjoy the auditions?
The new season of American Idol has begun, and we’re treated to the worst of the worst in the auditions. Simon is just brutal with some of the comments he makes – yet when you turn on your radio the next morning people are laughing and reminiscing about all the cruel statements made the night before. We really don’t get to see much of the good people – the ones headed to Hollywood – and everyone knows that when they turn on the audition shows. Do we just enjoy watching others make fools of themselves? Are we glad that it’s someone else being embarrassed and not us? Or is it like the car wreck we pass on the highway? We know we shouldn’t gawk at other people’s misery but we are drawn to it like moths to flame? Who knows why we enjoy watching the auditions. But we do. And we’ll keep on watching them.
