Yves eliminated from Soap Star; Ashlee and Jimena in the finals
I have complained for many, many posts about how ABC has bled dry Dancing With The Stars. Well now a fellow network owned by Disney is doing it’s best to cash in on the phenomenon. Karina Smirnoff from DWTS guest starred on tonight’s episode of Soap Star. And I must say she seems to have a bit of natural acting ability.
The scene tonight had the Yves, Ashlee and Jimena dancing a ballroom style dance with either Smirnoff or Artem Chigvitsev. He also seemed to have a bit of natural acting ability. Jimena was nervous about having to dance, because according to her she was not a dancer. Ashlee had some dancing in her past. I’m not sure about Yves, but all he really had to do was look good and frame Karina and her dancing.
Here’s my opinion on the scenes. I liked Yves. I thought he seemed real and raw. Ashlee, while good, seemed to be really calculated again in her performance. I don’t think I was watching the same performance as the judges when it came to Jimena. They complimented her up and down and said she was real and raw and had some beautiful moments in the scene. I couldn’t get past the fact that she was sniffing getting ready to cry during the entire scene. She was good, don’t get me wrong, but I thought Yves was better.
In the end it was Yves who was killed off (because the judges didn’t think he could do the serious stuff, just the romantic lead type of stuff) and I think it was a mistake. It’s an all female finale, and for the first time a woman is going to be the winner of I Wanna Be a Soap Star.
A few things about the finale – first, it’s going to air live at 11:00 pm eastern time next Tuesday (a real bummer for those of us who have to get up early). Second, you can vote for your favorite contestant to win the contract role on Days of Our Lives.
