Discovery Reality TV Shows

The Discovery Channel (they have all those programs like Medical Incredible, true stories of the ER, etc.)

The Discovery Channel and its sister network Discover Health offer a wide variety of documentary reality shows. In fact, one of the most popular cable reality series, Jon and Kate Plus 8, started on Discovery.

One of Discovery's most popular reality series is "Deadliest Catch." Now in its fifth season, this show follows men who hold one of the world's most dangerous occupations - crab fishing. The show follows fishing boats on the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab and Opilio seasons. Although different seasons have featured a number of boats, the captain and crew of the Northwestern, Cornelia Marie, Time Bandit, and Wizard have become fan favorites.

Possibly based on the popularity of "Deadliest Catch," Discovery also offers other shows about unusual occupations. "The Detonators" follows demolition specialists to show exactly what it takes to bring a building down. "American Loggers" focuses on the lives of the Pelletier family - seven brothers and four sons. This show enters the Maine wilderness with the family to learn more about the hard job of logging. "Storm Chasers," which features a team of tornado chasers whose goal is to collect research data about the storms in order to help improve the warning systems, will begin its third season this year.

Like many networks, Discovery also has a reality series about ghosts and hauntings. "A Haunting" dramatizes the real life stories of people around America who have suffered from a haunting. The show offers first person accounts as the story is reenacted.

Discovery Health's "Deliver Me" series features doctors Alane Park, Yvonne Bohn, and Allison Hill, all of whom are mothers. The show focuses on their lives, their office, and their work at the Good Samaritan Hospital. "Dr. G: Medical Examiner" follows Dr. Jan Garavaglia, a medical examiner in Orlando, Florida. Dr. G. tries to figure out how people died mysterious deaths through the use of autopsy as well as interviewing family and friends of the deceased.

"Mystery Diagnosis" focuses on individuals who are suffering from an unknown illness. Some describe it as a real-life version of the popular show "House." "Untold Stories of the ER" airs on both Discovery Health and The Learning Channel (TLC). Emergency room doctors talk about their most bizarre cases, whether it is violent patients, life-threatening injuries, or medical sabotage. While all the examples used in the show are real, actors play the role of the patients.

The Duggar family also has their own reality series on Discover Health. This Arkansas family consists of 18 children, ranging in ages from five months to twenty years. "18 Kids and Counting" follows this unique family in their day to day lives.

The Discovery Channel offers such intriguing reality shows involving unlikely situations that even people who claim to not like "reality television" can often find shows they enjoy.
