Fox Reality TV Shows
The Fox television network is home to one of the most popular reality television programs of all time, American Idol. However, several other reality shows have been aired on the network. These include:
American Idol - Not only is this the most popular reality show on Fox, it can be argued that it is one of the most popular reality shows in the United States. The first season aired in 2002, and it is a competition between younger singers to determine who will be crowned American Idol, the next big music star. Contestants are selected from all over the United States, going through a series of auditions until the finalists are determined. The fans vote to determine who should be eliminated each week, and who is safe. The judges, which have become popular in their own right, have been Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowell. Ryan Seacrest has been the host throughout all the seasons.
COPS - This was one of the first reality shows to be aired on the Fox network. As the name suggests, it documents the work of police officers and other law enforcement representatives as they perform their jobs. It is one of the longest running series in the United States, beating almost all the other reality shows currently airing. During the show, the police will be seen handling disputes and carrying out arrests.
The show is distinct for its popular theme song, which is "Bad Boys" by the music group Inner Circle. Because the show always takes place in different cities, and features a variety of police officers in different scenarios, it stays fresh season after season, and it has remained popular among its audience. It is also a pioneer for a reality show that features police officers. This show has been on the air since 1989.
Hell's Kitchen - This reality show was first premiered in 2005. The host/central character of the show is chef Gordon Ramsay, and it is a competition among 12 aspiring chefs to determine who will be declared the winner. Ramsay is infamous for his quick temper and fierce treatment of the contestants. It can be argued that he is the most brutal so far of any reality show host. The winner of the competition receives a million dollar restaurant.
Nanny 911 - This reality show is slightly based on Little Angels, which is a British television show. The format of this show features of American families who have difficult children that become managed by English nannies. Some of these nannies have previously served for the Royal Family of Britain.
So You Think You Can Dance - This reality show is similar to American Idol, but it is distinct because it places an emphasis on dancing rather than singing. This show is different from Dancing With The Stars as it features regular people, not celebrities. Different dance styles (including hip hop and ballroom) are featured, and the winner will be given a brand new vehicle along with $100,000, and a dance role in a major Vegas show.
Trading Spouses - This reality show was first introduced in 2004. It showcases two families, which come from different sections of society, exchanging either husbands or wives for a week. Both families are given $50,000, and the guest mother is responsible for choosing how the family will spend the money.
