A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila
"A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" is an innovative MTV reality show that follows the same premise as other dating shows such as "The Bachelor" or "Flavor of Love" with one small twist - both straight men and lesbian women are invited to try to win the love of the show's star, Tila Tequila.
Tila is a model, entertainer, and singer who resides in West Hollywood, California. She is best known for her appearances on the cover of men's magazines such as Stuff and Maxim and as the host of the Fuse TV show "Pants-Off Dance-Off." She also gained fame for being the Queen of MySpace with over 3 million "friends."
The first season of "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequilaz" began airing on October 9, 2007 on MTV. There were 16 straight men and 16 lesbian women invited to the house, but they didn't know Tila was bisexual until the end of the first episode. By the end of that first night, ten contestants had been eliminated. To spice things up a bit, all remaining contestants, both male and female, had to share the same bedroom.
There were 10 episodes total, with Bobby Banhart winning Tila's love at the end, over female contestant Dani. However, the love was short lived. The two "broke up" after the final show ended, although there has been some controversy surrounding the circumstances. Bobby claims that Tila never contacted him after the show was over and producers refused to give him her number. Tila explained the breakup by saying, "We couldn't see each other for 2 months after [the finale], and we only talked on the phone. Just naturally, people kind of move on with their lives." Some in the media accused Tila of already having a boyfriend and stating that not only was the show a sham, but she wasn't even bisexual. Tila has denied all rumors.
The first season debuted at number one in it's time slot for the target demographic audience of MTV - people ages 18-34. It had the second highest rated premiere behind "Life of Ryan." Approximately 6.2 million viewers watched the finale.
The show offered a few spin-offs. "A Shot of Love: The Hangover" was a one time show that featured clips and interviews with the houseguests. Domenico Nesci, who had been a contestant on "A Shot At Love," got his own dating reality show called "That's Amore." The show featured 15 women all vying for Domenico's attention.
It was announced there would be a season two of the show, which will premiere on Tuesday, April 22. It will follow the same bisexual format as the first season.
